Medieval Lincoln's cloth trade produced a green, dense, deeply dyed, conspicuously bright, that became the city's most recognisable export. By the twelfth century it had acquired a mythology larger than any single wearer. Lincoln's Green holds onto that original brightness: a green made to be noticed in the right proportion, from the trouser hem down. The shade of the man who was there before the legend arrived.
